The ocean covers 70% of the Earth’s surface–2.5% of that is freshwater. The ocean contains an array of amazing plants and creatures. Over 1 million known species live in this environment and scientists predict there may be as many as 9 million species that have yet to be discovered. The ocean has a vast array of environments ranging from dark, icy, and cold, to murky, and muddy, to clear, warm or even scalding hot. Because of the increasing pressure of the world’s growing population our oceans are in danger–it is important we all take a moment to reflect what we can do to help!
