Curlews are the largest shorebirds found in North America. They are found in coastal areas during the winter to feed and then migrate inland to breed in native grasslands. They are most easily recognized from other shorebirds by their long downward curved bills that can reach up to 8 inches in length. Curlews are one of the most threatened shorebirds mainly due to breeding habitat destruction.
