Australian spotted jellyfish are an invasive species that have spread themselves far and wide throughout the oceans. They originated off the coasts of Australia traveling via ballast water in ships to other parts of the world. It has been documented that each of these particular jellyfish have the capability of filtering 260,000 gallons of water a day–an amount of water equal to one-third the size of an olympic swimming pool. They can digest the entire contents of their stomach every 2 hours, thus needing to feed constantly.
